Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for "dynamic, results driven " individual to join as an Electrical Test Equipment and Controls Design Engineer . The design engineer will provide electrical design prints and BOM's used for quoting and building manufacturing equipment.

Key responsibilities

  • Create electrical design schematics for high and low power test fixtures.
  • Create electrical design schematics for high and low power load boxes.
  • Create electrical design schematics for PXI test systems.
  • Create Bill of Materials (BOM) for designs
  • Create Safety PLC's (Pluto/ABB) to meet internal and regulatory targets (IEC 62061, ISO 13849-1, and IEC 61058)
  • Assure project timelines and commitments are met
  • Escalates problems when appropriate
  • Recommend spare parts and preventative maintenance for direct design, assembly and debugging efforts
  • Document equipment buyoff checklist
  • Follow project build activity and provide engineering support for debug and buyoff at build supplier
  • Develop outside suppliers for equipment builds
  • Work with mechanical design engineer to provide a complete design package to build shop
  • Travel under 20%, mostly local.


What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years' equipment design experience required; However, preference will be given to those with 8+ years of experience.
  • Experience using AutoCAD preferred.
  • Knowledgeable of equipment requirement elements including CE compliance, FCC. UL, CSA, etc.
  • Experience with Powertrain and Power Electronics product lines preferred
  • Experience with safety circuit designs using safety PLC's preferred, ABB/Pluto, Siemens, Allen Bradley (AB) Beckhoff, Pilz, etc.
  • Experience with Visual Basic (VB) and or "C" programming preferred
  • Sense of ownership to ensure the successful completion of project objectives.
  • Good problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrates resourcefulness in problem solving
  • Highly detail-oriented
